Kosakata bahasa Inggris untuk IELTS adalah salah satu komponen paling menentukan dalam meraih band 7 ke atas. Dalam sistem penilaian IELTS, Lexical Resource (kekayaan kosakata) menyumbang 25% dari total skor di komponen Writing dan Speaking. Artinya, seberapa luas dan tepat kamu menggunakan kata-kata langsung memengaruhi seperempat dari nilai akhirmu.

Masalahnya, banyak kandidat IELTS yang belajar vocabulary secara acak — menghafal kata per kata tanpa konteks, tanpa tahu apakah kata itu relevan untuk topik yang biasa muncul di tes. Hasilnya, di hari ujian otak panik dan kata-kata yang sudah dipelajari tiba-tiba hilang.

Artikel ini menyusun 300+ kosakata IELTS band 7+ yang paling sering muncul, dikelompokkan berdasarkan 8 topik utama yang secara konsisten hadir di IELTS Writing Task 2 dan Speaking Part 3. Setiap kata dilengkapi terjemahan bahasa Indonesia dan contoh kalimat yang bisa langsung kamu adaptasi untuk jawaban IELTS.


Mengapa Vocabulary Sangat Penting untuk Raih Band 7+?

Berdasarkan kriteria penilaian resmi IELTS yang dipublikasikan oleh British Council dan IDP, penguji mengevaluasi Lexical Resource berdasarkan tiga aspek:

1. Jangkauan kata (range of vocabulary) Apakah kamu menggunakan variasi kata yang luas, atau terus mengulang kata yang sama?

2. Ketepatan penggunaan (accuracy) Apakah kamu menggunakan kata di konteks yang benar, dengan kolokasi yang tepat?

3. Kelancaran (fluency/naturalness) Apakah pemilihan katamu terasa alami, bukan dipaksakan atau diterjemahkan mentah-mentah dari bahasa Indonesia?

Untuk meraih band 7, kamu harus menunjukkan “sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision.” Band 8 ke atas membutuhkan “wide resource of vocabulary used with fluency and flexibility.”

Artinya: tidak cukup hanya mengetahui arti kata — kamu harus tahu cara pakainya secara tepat dan alami dalam konteks.

Cara Menggunakan Daftar Kosakata Ini Secara Efektif

Sebelum masuk ke daftarnya, tips penting agar vocabulary benar-benar melekat:

  • Jangan hafal, tapi pahami. Baca contoh kalimatnya, bayangkan konteksnya, lalu buat kalimatmu sendiri.
  • Kelompokkan berdasarkan topik. Otak lebih mudah menyimpan kata dalam klaster tematik dibanding daftar acak.
  • Latih kolokasi. Perhatikan kata-kata yang sering berpasangan (misal: significant impact, bukan big impact untuk Writing formal).
  • Gunakan saat latihan writing/speaking. Vocabulary baru harus dipakai aktif dalam 24-48 jam pertama agar masuk ke memori jangka panjang.
  • Target 10 kata baru per hari, fokus pada 2-3 topik per minggu.
